250 houses to be constructed in Dominica

There’s no stopping the government of Dominica from building back better homes for its residents.

Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit recently revealed that 250 more houses are expected to be built in communities throughout the island, Dominica Vibes reported.

This initiative is part of the government’s Housing Revolution Programme, one of the many projects fully funded by the country’s Citizenship By Investment (CBI) Programme. The project aims to provide 5,000 new modern, climate-resilient homes for the most vulnerable.

One of its trusted partners in achieving its ambitious residential projects is the MMC Development Ltd. of the Montreal Management Consultants Est. (MMCE), which has been closely working with the Skerrit administration since 2015.

MMC Development Ltd. is the overseer of the 12 ongoing residential projects throughout the island, as well as a number of health facilities like the Marigot Hospital and the country’s massive international airport.

The government will also modernize the suburban town of Newtown, just south of Dominica’s capital, with smaller type of houses to be built along the main road.

“When you drive to Newtown, you will see a number of dilapidated buildings,” Skerrit said, adding that residents in the area have been prepared to sell their lots to the government for the project to commence.

Skerrit also expressed his appreciation to the young adult Dominicans who supported the government’s Future Housing Project.

The “Future Housing Programme,” is another housing scheme where affordable housing subsidized by the government will be made more accessible to qualified residents who are 45 years old or younger and are employed within the public and private sectors.

“This is our way of subsiding overall cost of the home so that the cost is within the financial range [of] young professionals and young Dominicans,” the prime minister said in a previous speech.

“I believe we have to applaud Dominicans who had opportunities elsewhere but made a conscious decision to come to Dominica. And the whole idea is to empower them, to recognize them,” Skerrit said.
