6,000 Bajans to be honoured at the 2nd Humanitarian Awards
Barbados will honour nearly 6,000 Barbadians at the 2nd Humanitarian Awards Ceremony for their efforts to ensure the health and welfare of the country during the height of the COVID-19 outbreak.
During the ceremony beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 20, at Kensington Oval, frontline workers from the public and private sectors, the media, and charitable organizations will be honoured for their exemplary service.
Four award categories will be presented, which are as follows:
- The Honourary Freedom of Barbados Award – to be presented to the Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr Carissa Etienne, for her leadership Team and friendship to Barbados during the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic;
- Humanitarian Medals – will be conferred on frontline workers in essential services who, at great risk to their personal health and safety, contributed to controlling and managing the local, community and national spread of COVID-19.
- Humanitarian Lapel Pins – will be presented to persons who worked in supporting roles on the frontline in essential services and who provided support to the national COVID-19 response effort, thereby stemming local, community and national spread.
- Humanitarian Plaques – in appreciation of the generous donations of countries and organisations to the Government and People of Barbados to combat the spread of COVID-19.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley will deliver an address, while the President of Barbados, Her Excellency the Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason, is anticipated to bestow the Honorary Freedom of Barbados Award.
Dr Carissa Etienne, director of PAHO, will recognize the accomplishments of workers from the commercial and public sectors and non-governmental organization partners who fought diligently on the front lines or in supporting roles behind the scenes to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Barbados.
Local performers will provide entertainment at the event. The Transport Board will conduct a special “Park and Ride” system to provide transportation for recipients and guests.
The Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation will broadcast the event on television and multiple online platforms.
