Haitian rapper MechansT missing in Bahamas

32-year-old Haitian rapper Mechanste Wens Jonathan Desir, better known by his stage name MechansT, is missing at sea and is being sought after by Bahamas authorities.

On Tuesday, July 16, the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) in Abaco received unverified allegations regarding the missing artist, which prompted an instant inquiry.

However, the RBPF claims that Desir’s entry into and exit from the nation are not officially documented as of now.

According to the Haitian Times, Desir reportedly went to Great Abaco for a concert on May 18. MechansT decided to stay longer in the Bahamas, but his older brother Steeven Desir went with him on May 24 following the show.

His brother reportedly told the Haitian Times: “He told me, if I return to the country, I won’t be able to focus because I’m preparing for my 2025 album. It’s calmer here. I’m staying here for a short vacation.”

But, even though they were in different countries, the brothers stayed in daily contact with the rapper until July 4, when they stopped communicating.

Some Haitians have, without evidence, connected Mr Désir’s disappearance to a boating incident on Andros last week. Police said a boat with eight people was travelling from Ocean Cay to Eleuthera with eight passengers when the vessel began taking in water and eventually sank some nine miles off Morgans Bluff, Andros. Several people, including Hondurans and one Haitian national, were reportedly rescued.

Désir’s management team and family posted a letter on his Instagram page, describing the issue as sensitive while asking for information.

The public is being asked for any information that could help locate Desir, as the Abaco police are aggressively investigating his disappearance. The RBPF invites anyone with pertinent information to contact them.

Mechans-T has one million Instagram followers, 448,000 YouTube subscribers, and 12,485 monthly Spotify listeners.
