Burton Nibbs International Airport gets 99 flights in two months
In its first two months of operation, the Barbuda’s Burton Nibbs International Airport received 99 flights. The officials said that November had the most flights, totaling 54.
The airport opened on October 3, 2024, and got 45 flights in its first month.
One of the airport’s main features is its 6100-foot runway, which has been constructed to accommodate a variety of aircraft types, including the LIAT ERJ 145 and ATR 46, as well as the ERJ 175 and the somewhat bigger Embraer E 170.
The significant number of flights in barely two months of operation indicates a high level of visitor interest in Barbuda.
Furthermore, according to reports, Barbuda International Airport is not only a popular destination for commercial planes, but has seen a surge in the number of private jets landing in recent weeks.
The officials claim that this is solely due to the high-quality amenities available at Burton Nibbs International.
The opening of the Barbuda International Airport was a significant milestone, as the island became the only destination in the Caribbean region to open a new international airport in the past decade.
This makes Barbuda the smallest island in the region to provide such a valuable transit option, making it relatively convenient for islanders to travel across the Caribbean.
Furthermore, the building of this airport is expected to result in a slew of new job possibilities while also boosting the general economy.
Also, the airport has created various employment, including immigration and customs officers, airport operators, and other personnel, which are likely to grow in the near future.
Since the airport’s inception, staffing levels have nearly doubled, with more aviation security officers, immigration and customs personnel, additional airport operation officers, and custodial staff, all of which are critical to providing a smooth and secure travel experience for both visitors and residents.
Tourism Minister Charles Ferendez praised the international airport’s opening as a commitment to Barbuda’s future and emphasized its role in establishing ties between the two islands.
The airport’s opening signaled the start of a new chapter in the country’s connectivity, tourism, and economic development. This further strengthens the twin island nation’s image as a top luxury destination.
