Antigua and Barbuda wins 30th OECS Swimming Championship

The Antigua and Barbuda National Swimming Team made history by winning the country’s first-ever OECS swimming title.

With a combined total of 1,111 points, the team clinched the 2022 OECS Swimming Championships — for the first time in thirty years.

Thirty-one (31) swimmers represented Antigua and Barbuda at the event, which ran from November 11 to 13th at the Rodney Bay Aquatics Center in Saint Lucia.

There were also outstanding individual performances for Antigua and Barbuda throughout the championships:

  • Kaylee Warner competing in the girls’ eight and under age category, broke five OECS records by picking up four gold and three silver medals while claiming the overall high-points trophy in her age group.
  • Zane Williams dominated in the boys’ eight and under age category to come away with multiple gold medals and the high-points trophy
  • In the girls’ 9 to 10, Anya DeGannes won the overall high-points trophy while also setting two OECS records.
  • In the boys’ 9 -10 age category, Jamie Tranter won the overall trophy
  • Bianca Mitchell won the overall high-points trophy in the girls’ 18 and over age group.

The Antigua and Barbuda National Swimming Team took a victory lap around the pool in celebration.

The results of the 30th OECS swimming championship are as follows:

  • Antigua and Barbuda – 1st place (1,111 points)
  • Saint Lucia – 2nd place (1,018 points)
  • Grenada – 3rd place (956.5 points)
  • St Vincent and Grenadines- 4th place (841 points)
  • St Kitts and Nevis – 5th place (61 points)
  • St Maarten – 6th place (5.5 points)
