Dominica concludes general elections
The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) once again secured victory by winning 19 out of 21 seats in the snap general elections held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
Unopposed MP for the Vieille Case constituency and incumbent Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit thanked all Dominicans, especially DLP supporters, who cast their votes.
During a radio interview after the preliminary results, Skerrit congratulated and welcomed the two independent candidates who won for Marigot and Salisbury.
“I just want to extend congratulations to the two candidates who won in Salisbury and Marigot,” Skerrit said.
He added that the win for the independent candidates shows that the elections were credible and fair.
“I think it clearly shows that the elections were credible and they were free and fair and that the voters of Dominica exercised their right to vote and they voted for candidates of their choosing.”
Jesma Paul won the Salisbury Constituency, while Anthony Charles won against Gregory Riviere in the Marigot Constituency.
Skerrit said he plans to meet with all candidates who contested the election to see how they can participate in the “national reset” for Dominica.
This is the sixth consecutive election that the Dominica Labour Party has claimed victory and the fifth straight time under the leadership of Roosevelt Skerrit.
