Dominica Government updates on International Airport construction
Samuel Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica International Airport Development Company, recently updated the construction of Dominica’s first International Airport in Wesley.
According to Johnson, some homes have been harmed by the runway’s alignment. He explains that to transfer over the site to the contractor, the property owners/built property owners must relocate.
“If individuals are driving in the vicinity of the site, they will see that there has been massive land clearing.”
In addition, Mr Benoit Bardouille, Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica Air and Sea Port Authority (DASPA) and Executive Official of the Dominica International Airport Development Committee, announced that the International Airport’s building plans had been reviewed.
He noted that the evaluation considered the obstacles since the initial plan was created, including the pandemic.
We had several discussions with various stakeholders, including MMC Development Ltd., and we made several changes to the original plans which will impact the Fire & Rescue Service, Customs, and ATC.”
Meanwhile, MMC Development Ltd. CEO Anthony Haiden stated that strong collaboration with IADC, DASPA, and other government agencies is required to ensure that all needs are met.
“We will ensure that the airport will be resilient and sustainable to provide the best benefit for all.”, Haiden stated.
