Dominica prepares for MV Island Sky and MV Fram’s inaugural visit
Dominica is getting ready for the upcoming arrival of two new cruise ships, The MV Island Sky and the MV Fram.
The MV Island Sky is expected to arrive first on April 20th, followed by the MV Fram on April 22nd.
Both ships will dock at the Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth in Portsmouth, marking the 14th and 15th times the crew ships visited during the 2023/2024 cruise season.
Commemorating the occasion, each ship will have special celebrations, including a plaque exchange ceremony.
Operated by London-based cruise company Noble Caledonia, the MV Island Sky offers an intimate cruising experience with its 118-passenger capacity. It was the first cruise ship to visit Scotland post-COVID-19, boasting a gross tonnage of 42,000 and a length of 91 meters.
Meanwhile, the MV Fram, managed by Norway’s Hurtigruten Group and named after the original vessel used by explorers Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen, offers adventurous sailing through the Arctic Ocean, Greenland, and Antarctica. It has room for 250 passengers, a gross tonnage of 11,647, and a length of 114 meters.
Dominica’s 2023/2024 cruise season has seen remarkable success, with 206 cruise vessels and 298,378 passengers as of April 9th, 2024. The Ministry of Tourism and the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) aim to enhance the overall cruise experience with initiatives like the bayfront vending area transformation and the cable car project.
