Dominican PM Skerrit Foresees Rapid Progress in Cable Car Project in the New Year
Dominica’s long-awaited cable car project gears up for ongoing advancements in 2024, as Dominica’s prime minister underscores its pivotal role in enhancing tourism opportunities and driving robust economic growth.
Reported by the Associates Times, the $275 million endeavor is projected to span a two-year timeline for completion and aims to secure its place in the Guinness World Records.
Covering a distance of 6.6 kilometers, the cable car project seeks to streamline the arduous 6-hour trek to the boiling lake, promising a safer and more efficient passage for adventurers.
Skerrit previously highlighted that the project is poised to become Dominica’s primary attraction, anticipating an 80,000 surge in cruise visitors. He emphasized its dual impact, not only drawing tourists but also creating numerous job opportunities for locals.
The cable car journey will offer an opportunity to discover Dominica’s genuine natural splendor.
Travelers will traverse Morne Trois Pitons National Park, immersing themselves in lush tropical forests that seamlessly blend with awe-inspiring volcanoes and other captivating attractions.
Envisioned as a catalyst, the cable car project is forecasted to amplify the tourism sector sevenfold, presenting a multitude of prospects for the local community.
Over 100 Dominicans are slated for direct employment during the cable car’s construction, according to reports, while an additional 200 individuals stand to benefit indirectly, encompassing taxi drivers, souvenir vendors, local eateries, tour guides, and various other roles within the community.
A similar project, the country’s first international airport, is expected to generate several jobs for Dominicans.
Set to be completed in 2026, the Dominica International Airport is a significant venture for Dominica, representing a crucial infrastructure addition to the country’s transportation network. It is expected to accommodate larger aircraft and facilitate direct flights to and from international destinations, which would significantly reduce travel time and boost tourism and trade opportunities.
The project is spearheaded by Dubai-based developing company MMC Development Ltd.
