Former Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister passes away
Antigua and Barbuda has lost one of its most distinguished and heroic sons as former Prime Minister Sir Lester Bird passed has passed away at the age of 83.
The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) confirmed in a post that Bird passed away around 6 this morning. While details are still coming to hand, Sir Lester had a long battle with health complications.
All flags across Antigua and Barbuda will be flown at half-mast and Bird will be given a state funeral.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne extended his sincerest condolences to the family.
“Sir Lester was a great son of the soil, who contributed significantly to the socio-economic development of our nation. May his soul Rest In Peace and rise in glory.”
Bird was the second Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda from 1994 to 2004.
In 2014, he was made a Knight of the Order of the National Hero (KNH) by Antigua and Barbuda.
