Grenada welcomes resumption of international and intra-regional flights

Over the past weeks, Grenada has welcomed new and resumed flights out of the United Kingdom, Canada, USA and within nearby nations in the region.

Caribbean Airlines resume daily flights to Grenada

Caribbean Airlines Ltd (CAL) has increased its flight schedule to daily service between Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA), Grenada and Piarco International, Trinidad, effective November 26, 2022.

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell welcomed the increased intra-regional flights, noting the recent extreme hardship of moving freely between the islands.

“The return of daily flight service between Grenada and Trinidad is a win for our islands but also a win for the region, which has been struggling significantly with intra-regional travel. Regional connectivity is important for the tourism industry and critical to ensure sustained economic growth and development, especially in trade and foreign investment,” Prime Minister Mitchell stated.

The Monday and Friday CAL service will depart in the evenings at 8:15 pm arriving at Piarco International at 8:55 pm, offering connectivity to their red-eye New York service. The Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday flight service departs MBIA at 11:20 am and arrives in Port of Spain at 12:00 pm, offering convenient connections to the Toronto flight service.

Wednesdays and Fridays depart at 9:15 am, with the Wednesday service operating via Barbados and arriving at Piarco International at 12:10 pm, and the Friday non-stop service to Piarco arrives at 9:55 am.

Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority, welcomed the timely addition of flight options, noting that many are eager to travel during this holiday. “We are delighted with the commitment of CAL to increase flight frequency between Grenada and Trinidad, our top-performing market in the Caribbean.”

Commenting on the new service, Chairman of the Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA), Randall Dolland, remarked: “These additional flights give visitors the option to connect to Grenada for both business and leisure and bring a welcome boost to regional connectivity. GTA is committed to diligently working with all our travel partners to provide as many options as possible for Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.”

Return of Condor Airlines’ non-stop service

Meanwhile, Condor Airlines resumes its service from Frankfurt International Airport to Grenada every Sunday starting Sunday, 20 November 2022.

“Condor has been offering a convenient gateway from wider Europe to Grenada, so we are especially pleased with the resumption of their non-stop services into Grenada. The service offers convenient connections from Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, and China. We are strategically working with their management team to extend the winter service to a year-round one,” said Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA)

Minister for Infrastructure and Physical Development, Public Utilities, Civil Aviation, and Transportation, Dennis Cornwall, who also spoke at the ceremony, said he is honoured to welcome the return of Condor airlines.

“Condor’s arrival is significant for many reasons, specifically because it is their first flight back to the Maurice Bishop International Airport since March 2020. Secondly, it also marks the return of our international airlift capacity to the 2019 levels.”
