Grenada wins at Academy of Chocolate awards

With over 1,600 submissions from more than 45 countries, the Grenada Chocolate Company, the first-ever tree-to-bar chocolate factory in Grenada, bags silver and bronze recognition at the 2021 Academy of Chocolate awards.

The Grenada Chocolate Company has won 3 awards in 2 different categories.

In the Tree to Bar category, The Grenada Chocolate Company’s 100% Dark Chocolate bar won silver and the 71% Dark Chocolate bar won bronze.

The Grenada Chocolate Company has also won silver in the Tree to Bar Seasoned category, the 60% Nib-A-Licious Dark Chocolate bar.

Since launching their business in 1999, the late founders’ Mott Green, Doug Browne, along with remaining founder Edmond Brown won 10 accolades across several prestigious industry contests, including the International Chocolate Awards World Finals and Academy of Chocolate Awards.

The cooperative currently has over 200 acres of organic cocoa farms and the chief objective is ensuring that farmers are fairly rewarded for their hard work and that cocoa farming and chocolate production use sustainable methods.

Academy of Cholocate awards

Launched in 2005, the prestigious Academy of Chocolate awards sought to identify, recognise and showcase the world’s most talented chocolate producers and finest chocolates.

Held in London, judges deliberate over key categories including Bean to Bar, Tree to Bar, Flavoured, Milk and White Bars, Filled chocolates, Spreads and Packaging.

Further judging by a Supreme Jury considers Gold winners and determines Special Award winners.

The awards are judged by leading chocolatiers, producers, journalists, bloggers, food writers, and other chocolate experts from across the industry.

But due to enforced COVID-19 restrictions, the Tree to Bar and Bean to Bar entries have been judged separately this year with the remaining categories scheduled for judging in October.
