Barbados and Argentina’s commitment to stronger ties

Barbados is committed to strengthening the friendly ties with Argentina that have existed since November 1, 1981 — this is what acting prime minister Santia Bradshaw assured Argentina’s ambassador Ciro Ciliberto.

The two then engaged in a lengthy conversation in a courtesy call at Ilaro Court on Wednesday.

Bradshaw informed the Ambassador that his immediate predecessor, Ambassador Gustavo Martinez Pandiani, had played a crucial role in developing strong ties with government officials and the larger government and had identified areas of cooperation that would be advantageous to both countries.

The Acting Prime Minister used cultural exchanges to illustrate, stating that the groundwork had already been done in this area and that Barbadians now have a greater understanding of Argentina’s culture and customs.

Therefore, I believe that has given us a foundation to build. I believe we can continue to intensify these cultural exchanges,” she said.

Bradshaw also spoke on collaboration in sports and working with Argentina’s sporting organizations to help parents nurture their kids’ athletic potential.

The visit by Argentina’s President, Dr Alberto Fernández, in February, according to Ambassador Ciliberto, was proof of the nation’s dedication to advancing the relationship.

“I will be working to continue building diplomatic relations with Barbados. We have been working on several activities of mutual benefit to both countries, and Argentina can provide assistance. We also benefit.  We are always happy to share our knowledge and personal experiences with Barbados,” he said.

Among other topics, the two officials also talked about concluding an air services agreement, student exchanges, opportunities for additional Spanish training to prepare the workforce for job opportunities abroad, the effects of climate change on vulnerable countries, working with Argentine scientists to combat sargassum seaweed, and methods for enhancing food security.
