CARICOM Energy virtual electric vehicle roadshow

Press Release – On 20 November 2020, at  10.30 am AST the CARICOM Secretariat and Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) in collaboration with regional partners will take you on a virtual demonstration of electric vehicles.

This Virtual Roadshow targets car owners, car enthusiasts and anyone who is interested in the growing Electric Vehicle market in the Caribbean.  It is designed to provide food for thought and answer questions about e-mobility in an uncomplicated way.

Topics for discussion include:

  • How do electric vehicles work?
  • What does it cost?
  • How to maintain them?

Through video presentations, the “Take a Drive” demonstration answers these questions and showcases the components of EVs, including battery and charging technologies and the driver intelligence derived from EVs. The demonstration will also delve into different types of EVs, efficiency and performance, safety and maintenance and the overall cost benefits of e-mobility.

As the region continues its transition to a low-carbon future, the use of EVs is essential to decarbonising the transportation sector said Dr Gary Jackson, Executive Director of the CCREEE.

“To guide the development of the electric mobility sector within the region, the CCREEE – as a member of the Regional Electric Vehicle Working Group – developed a framework for the Regional Electric Vehicle Strategy on behalf of the working group. With the development of the strategy currently underway, the region stands to benefit from a comprehensive approach, to support uptake.”

Dr Jackson will present during the two-hour tour, along with Ms Joanna Edghill of Megapower Ltd, Mr Visham Babwah of the Trinidad and Tobago Automotive Dealers Association and Mr Xavier Gordon of Xergy Limited.
