DLP introduces slate for the elections, UWP will not participate

At a meeting held on the Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt on Tuesday night, the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) revealed its slate for the upcoming general elections.

Incumbent Prime Minister and Vieille Case MP Roosevelt Skerrit spearheaded the announcement of ten new candidates running for DLP.

  • Roland Royer- Cottage Constituency

  • Lynsia Frank- Salisbury Constituency
  • Daren Pinard- Colihaut Constituency
  • Fenella Wenham- Portsmouth Constituency

Skerrit, as well as nine other incumbent Parliamentary Representatives, will again run for office, namely:

Gregory Reviere, who lost to resigned opposition leader Lennox Linton, will again contest the seat for Marigot Constituency.

Skerrit said that he is preparing the party for a peaceful, orderly and disciplined transition, making sure that DLP will have members with sufficient skills, and talents to carry on the work the party have done over the last two decades. He noted this is the correct time to bring in a new breed of public servants ready to bring Dominica forward and upward.

UWP will not participate in elections

Meanwhile, the United Workers Party (UWP) expressed disappointment and dismay with the announcement to hold a “snap” general election on December 6, 2022.

In an official statement signed by the party’s General Secretary Nicholas George, UWP said that the call for the snap elections must be condemned by all Dominicans “as an affront to our democracy and an insult to our people.”

UWP calls for Dominicans not to vote unless two basic election standards are met — a clean voters list and for all legitimate voters to have a National ID card.

And because of the circumstances, George said that the United Workers Party has taken a decision not to participate in the upcoming elections. And calls on President Charles A. Savarin to revoke the calling of the election by Skerrit.
