Dominica extends e-passport deadline
The Government of Dominica has extended the deadline for citizens to upgrade to e-passports from August 31, 2022, to December 31, 2022.
Minister for National Security Rayburn Blackmoore announced that the decision was made considering heavy demand and many requests from the public
“Your government, therefore, has decided to extend the deadline for the migration period from a regular passport to the new e-passport for a further six months, December 31 2022.”
Blackmoore added that immigration employees are working day and night to process the applications and asked the public to bear with any inconveniences that may be caused.
He said that as of Tuesday, July 05 2022, the total number of e-passports printed and issued is 31,347.
“The ministry of national security and home affairs has been working closely with the immigration department to ensure speedy supply of the e-passports and constantly looking for new ways to improve the customer experience,” noted Blackmoore
In an initiative to achieve maximum security standards for Dominica’s passport holders, the Government announced last year the approval of the electronic passport edition, which carries the biometric information of its holder.
Citizens can upgrade to Dominica e-passport by:
- Apply by downloading the application form here
- Pay the application fee ($150 for adults and $75 for children under 16).
The applicant may pay the necessary fee at the office or via the e-payment method
The new Dominica Biometric Passport has the following features:
• 50 pages as opposed to 32 pages of the current machine-readable passport
• Contains advanced security features both overt and covert.
• Contains an electronic chip embedded in it which is equipped with biometric capabilities and facial recognition
• Includes biodata pages which are resilient to water, the laser engravement
• Incorporates a modern and aesthetic design that reflects the nature of Dominica and displays the country’s landmarks, flora and fauna.
