Water supply in Dominica interrupted following flash floods

After torrential rains that caused ravaging flash floods in Dominica early this week, residents in some parts of the island found themselves with limited access to water supply.

On its Facebook page, Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO) apologized for the “unannounced” water interruption.

“This interruption is due to a power outage in the area,” DOWASCO said on its Facebook page. “DOWASCO pump station, therefore, is currently not operational. We will keep residents updated on this matter.”

The affected communities are as follows: North End, Concord, Bataca, Antrizzle, Monkey Hill, Delice Morne Jaune, Riviere Cyrique, La Plaine, Castle Bruce, Grand Fond, San Sauveur, Mopo, Tronto, Dix pas, Good Hope, Petite Soufriere, and Gaullet River. There are also water interruptions in Bagatelle, Fond St. Jean, Stowe, Morne Prosper, and Pointe Carib.

DOWASCO added that the Crapaud Hall Water System was affected by a landslide and “remains inaccessible at this time.”

This interruption is due to blockage of the water intake and landslides at the Crapaud Hall Water System as a result of heavy rains over the weekend. Crapaud Hall “remains inaccessible at this time.”

According to the Eastern Caribbean Weather Updates Facebook page, “periods of rain” will continue to affect parts of Dominica.

“Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are impacting parts of Trinidad and Tobago, the Leeward and Virgin Islands. Flash flooding is likely in some of these locations. Other scattered showers have recently affected Grenada to St. Vincent [and the Grenadines],” the social media page reported.
