DLP rallies in the North
The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) started their campaign rallies for the December 6th general election by introducing their Northern team.
Incumbent Parliamentary Representative for Wesley Fidel Grant spoke first during the rally. He vowed to continue to fulfil his mission to champion the agricultural sector.
“While larger countries were crying about food shortage, we have had an abundance of nutritious food for our people.”
Grant noted that the agriculture sector’s investment had carried Dominica through some of the most challenging times. Investments in the form of tools, equipment, livestock and fishing materials, and seedlings, as well as improvement of various farm access roads.
“Our investments in agriculture have created an environment where young professionals are now leaving their office and going into agriculture. Our investments in agriculture are now putting money in the pocket of our farmers.”
Meanwhile, the three new candidates in the DLP slate have made their statements, expressing their readiness to take on the new responsibilities once elected in office.
Lakeyia Joseph said she is ready to speak and stand up for the people and is committed to doing what needs to be done not only for her constituency Paix Bouche but for all.
“I, Lakeyia Joseph, I am about us. Let us do what needs to be done to transform our constituencies and communities together. Join me as we develop this nation and take Dominica to the next level.”
Candidate for Cottage Constituency Roland Royer said he is honoured to heed the call of serving Dominica.
“I stand before you, ready for duty. I am part of this new generation that is willing, ready, and able to come on board to help support progressive policies… and continue the great strides it has made on housing, education, healthcare, agriculture, and so many critical areas.”
Royer said that his task moving forward is to consolidate, expand, and adapt given the unique challenges of the times without changing the representation rooted in the service of the people. He said that with his opportunity as a candidate and as an MP if permitted, he is well-ready to play his part.
“By the grace of God and through your prayers, I will not let you down. You can count on me,” said Fenella Wenham.
Wenham said it is a humbling and overwhelming experience to be chosen to represent the people, especially the Portsmouth constituency.
“As a representative of the people, I understand my role. I am just a vessel, a soldier on the frontline whose task is to articulate their dreams and aspirations. We have work to do together.”
As an educator, Wenham assured she would focus on education to foster holistic growth of the youth for the future of Dominica.
Hundreds flocked into Borough’s Square Portsmouth in support of their candidates.
